More Themes to Come, and IE 4.0?!?!

Posted on February 2nd in General, Ramblings, WordPress — No comments so far. Got something to say?

So the recent release of my first free WordPress theme “BBT” went pretty well, I think. It may have a pretty crappy name, but from what I gather people like it :D. So because it’s doing well now, I’ve decided that I’m going to finish up a theme I was going to use for something… but now I’m not will be released as well! It looks great, and it’s very professional looking, even business like. Add some photos, and maybe your flickr feed and it’s perfect! As always, you can subcribe to my RSS feed for the latest updates.

This week was definitely a huge week for traffic. In the past three days (so far) I’ve been graced with over 2800 unqiue visits! That’s probably more traffic in three days that I’ve ever had, and hopefully I can keep it going. Most of that is because of this post, which was featured on MacSurfer, so props to them! After the huge Mac audience there, my browser stats are totally thrown. 21.5% Safari! Among other browsers, Firefox has the majority at 53%, and IE has about 13%. Let me take a little bit to talk about how much I love IE, and IE users first. Shall we?

Alright, so first it needs to said, like most competent people I use FireFox. Now only 13% of people who come here use a version on Internet Explorer, which is a great stat, I think. But what prompted this ramble, is when I openned one of the stat tracking programs I use to get those percentages, I collapsed the IE total to reveal what versions some people are using. Some of them are unbelievable.

  • IE 6.0 - 8.5% (of total visits)
  • IE 7.0 - 4.6%
  • IE =< 5.5 - ~0.75%

Not bad right? Well, before I go past that, I’ll go on about the IE 6.0′ers. Update already! It has been a critical update for how long? You’re using Microsoft software! And you don’t want the more secure version? And IE 6 has many loop holes which I have personally fell into before upgrading, not to IE7, but to FireFox (actually did that way before IE7, but you get it, right? Right). It’s for your own good, folks.

Now here’s the interesting part. Each of the following versions I’ve only gotten one visitor for each, but look at this…

  • IE 4.0
  • IE incompatable
  • IE 7.0b

IE 4.0!? And incompatible? That could only be lower! The IE 7 beta version holds no real purpose, except for the fact that IE7 has been gold for how long, and they’re still using the beta copy? So I payed Wikipedia a visit, and this is what I found out about IE 4.0:

  • Released in 1997 (count ‘em , ten whole years ago).
  • For use on a Windows 95 or NT 4 machine.
  • Also graced early releases of ‘98.

I think that proves my point, and gets it accross qutie clearly. Thank you Wikipedia :) And of course I can’t thank Wiki without props to Stephen Colbert! :P

So how’s that for a rambling? Moral of the rambling for today? Upgrade your browsers! And the official update for IE 7.0 is FireFox 2.0 :P
