Progress and the Voting Bandwagon
So I’ve made the decision that I’m not going to be using WordPress for my new version, which is being called version 2, and I’m going to make this one 1.5. Besides version numbers, this one will be around for a while once it gets here, unlike previous designs. It looks great so far, and the CMS will be great too, especially the admin panel, which has a design that’s almost too nice for an admin area
That will all be out, at the soonest a week and the latest… maybe a month. Somewhere between that is most likely.
So the voting bandwagon is something that Digg started, with their “RSVC” system of Read, Submit, Vote and Comment and it’s now being jumped on by the largest companies. Yahoo! and Microsoft are the two most recent, and Technorati, being the worst of the bunch, in my opinion. Yahoo!’s suggestion boards with voting has a similar UI to Digg’s, and the idea is right on the same, but I guess Yahoo! gets away with it. MSN’s version is only in a few languages, but I checked out the French one and was pretty amazed at their lack of ability to hire a good UI designer. Not even any good AJAX features! Pfft. Now for Technorati’s mess of “WTF”. WTF suposedly means “Where’s the Fire?” but more approiately, WTF were you thinking? I don’t know about anyone else, but I only use Technorati because it’s right there in my WP admin and I check my rank every now and then.
I’m calling AOL to jump this if they haven’t already, then YouTube aaaand maybe Google.

I saw Technorati’s one yesterday.. “WTF”. Didn’t think it was very clever tbh.. WTF has a very well known meaning and their attempt to alter it.. or create their own.. well.. it didn’t impress.
