Some Minor Sidebar Changes
I’ve been adding and changing some stuff in the sidebar today- nothing major. I’ve added a ‘Me on the Web’ section which links out to sites I have profiles on, and then I added an ‘Other Links’ section which is for Text Link Ads, which you can get through the company of the same name by clicking the link in there. For the Text Link Ads, I’ll wait a month or so, and if no one bites I’ll take them down, so this is just an experiment. It seems like a pretty good deal, $25/mo for PR5, average of 160 visits/day and active posting.
I also have an account another company, owned by the same guys as TLA, ReviewMe. Some people think using ReviewMe on your blog is basically selling out or whoring yourself out to the people who pay. Here’s the way I see it: for $60 ($30 comes to me, $30 to RM) through ReviewMe I will write about your site. I won’t be biased in any way here and if I think your product/service/whatever sucks, I’m going to write about why it sucks, so basically it’s an indepth negative review. Alternatively, if I like it I’ll write about that. ReviewMe’ers should be giving honest opinions here, so that the reviewees actually get something out of it for their money, other than a little bit of traffic.
Anyways, what’s the reason for attempting the monetize here? Besides being $500 away from buying a shiny new MacBook, freelancing and contests doesn’t work very fast for me, so this is an experiment to see if I can use something (my blog) that I’m going to update and use constantly anyways to make a little bit of money. No selling out here, just TLA as an experiment and ReviewMe for people who want a straight honest opinion, whether I totally hate your site or love it. And by the way, this is my ReviewMe profile
