3 * 500 = Bad
So for those of you counting, yes, that was 3 whole days of a charming 500 Internal Server Error. At first I though it had come out of nowhere and apparently DreamHost had just upgraded to the latest version of PHP. So, naturally I open a support ticket because I thought it must’ve been on their end.
Long story short, as I have to get down to work here, they support guy I had recommended after talking to his “WordPress guy” was to rename the plugins directory and start activating them until I find what plugin is causing this. After that email, and the failed attempt at that, I thought to myself for the *first* time in over 70 hours… “What is most likely to cause a 500?” Of course, this is a screwed up (or not perfect) .htaccess file. So, I rename the main .htaccess, run the WP 2.1.2 upgrade, and everything’s good as new.
Maybe I should be on their support team for fixing my own problem? >.<

I had this problem recently when i switched host, they had an alternative PHP version and i think it was HTACCESS that was causing the problem for me too, i altered my mod_rewrite lines and all is well again. Phew
