Back on top of Blogger!
Well, at least for the Google search of my name. After ages of being number two to some guy who made a Blogger (I’d link to it, but that would only make the situation worse for me :P) account ages ago, and even at one time being #1, I’m back on top and looking to stay there. Blogger’s internal linking system must be very good if a simple profile page of some random guy that posted once in October 2005 can get 1200 profile views and a PageRank of 4. Not bad for only every logging in once right? Thankfully I got back on top, and it shouldn’t been so long seeing as this blog is PR5 anyways. But how did I do it?
Keyword Density.
Nothing else really seemed to work right, and just making sure that the terms “connor wilson” appear enough here and that they are in a little bit of <h1> and <strong> tags works pretty well. Now, keep in mind this isn’t a very competitive term, but if you think about it, why would I not be #1 to start with? PR5, over 200 pages listing (and seems to increase every day), active, yet an unactive page with lower PR (PR must not be that effective anyways) can be ranked ahead of me?
All I did to improve my keyword density was add “By Connor Wilson” (the_author() in WordPress) to each post, giving me three more appearances on the home page. Before when I was trying to get that #1 spot, I didn’t even know that the terms didn’t appear once on the whole page. This is where tools on websites like iWebTool come in handy. The one that worked best for this was the Spider View tool. Just input your URL and the keyword you want to see, and it will show you how a search bot will see your site, and it will highlight the keywords on the page and tell you how many times it appears. The first time I ran this the terms “connor wilson” didn’t appear at all! Now I have them in 6 times on the home page.
If you’ve never seen iwebtool, I suggest checking out some of their SEO tools. Most will allow you to compare your site with other websites, and registered members can track their progress and improvements in search engines with their domain tracking tool.
