Success Story that is John Chow
John Chow has been holding an event recently, where basically you write about his blog and he’ll link to you. He has 3000+ readers and a lot of traffic, so basically you get a little traffic and he gets some too, and then there’s a mutual Technorati improvement. Include some text like this:
John Chow dot Com is a blog that helps you make money online. He is offering to link to your blog if you review his blog.
And you’re set! Except for the review part… Why am I doing this, you might ask. Well, I assure you this isn’t out of needing traffic, but for those of you that don’t read John’s blog, here are some inspirational facts.
He blogs. Surprise? It shouldn’t be but the significance is that he blogs for a living. And I know many people do this and it’s common place today, but we’re talking actually good money here. His blog relaunched on December 1s, 2005, and he monetized it in September of 2006. Long wait? Well, it certainly has paid off. Only based on his posted January earnings, he’d be set to make around 41k this year, but that won’t happen. IT’s clearly proven through the graph in the linked post above that his blog earnings have been raising by a significant amount each month. If trends show anything, he would’ve made a little over $4,000 or so in February and March would probably be closer to $5,000 (Canadian figures… I believe he lives in Vancouver. Wrong side of the country but still represents Canada!).
My favourite part of John’s blog is definitely his business expenses. I remember reading this a while ago somewhere, but he goes to all these great restaurants in the Vancouver area and documents it and writes a review. Because he wrote a review for his blog which is his job it is therefore a business expense! If that is indeed true John Chow’s genius is show again.
Speaking of which… The contest he has up for wining a Wii with a similar theme as this one is another great scheme. I can only imagine the backlinks he’s getting from these promotions. He doesn’t have to pay anything, and he’s close to the 40th batch of these reviews. Thats almost 400 separate blogs! Not that he needs the traffic boost anyways… My guess is that he gets around 6,500 unique hits day, which is enormous for a personal blog.
That’s all for now, I’m not even going to touch on how he writes 4 or 5 posts at a time and has a backlog so he doesn’t have to stay at his computer all day.
