MacBook Pro vs iMac
Lately I’ve been looking to switch off from my crappy PC to a Mac for some time now (reasons why here). I had my eye set on a fancy new Black MacBook, until recently I was wondering if a MacBook Pro would be worth the upgrade. After that, I was set on the 15.4′, 2.16GHz MBP, but now I’m, wondering, for $50 I can get 9 inches of more screen, and more everything. 130 GB bigger hard drive, higher resolution, better graphics card, etc… The only thing that stays the same is the memory, and the processor speed, which I can live with.
Now seeing the iMac, I wonder: Do I really need a laptop? This computer would be used for the same purposes as my PC, but on a faster machine and a better OS for what I’d be using it for. It doesn’t really have to be mobile, but that’s something that would just be nice. I’d definitely be willing to pay $50 and lose the mobility for 9 inches of screen real estate. It’s not like the iMac isn’t mobile either! This thing is a total of 25 pounds, one piece and aesthetically is one of the most superior machines around.
Of course, all three options of a Black MacBook, MacBook Pro and iMac are all options and will remain all viable until I eventually go for one (or I might change my mind again). The iMac is now the most expensive choice, and the new options have been getting progressively more pricey, but in the end whatever I do end up with- whether it be an iMac or even another PC- it will be much better than what I’m on now and for that I know I’ll be happy

Exactly my dilemma as well. That and the slight cash shortage right now of course. I’m curious to see what you’ll go for.

Same here. I was thinking if i’m going to get a Mac, why don’t i save up to get a good Mac. Because the MacBook has beeen out for a while now. So i thought it might become obsolete soon as Apple make more amasing computers.

I can tell you from experience that the iMac rules. Unless you are constantly on the move or something, in which case the Mac Book might make more sense, I’d recommend the iMac. Asa work machine you’ll love all the extra everything, like you mentioned. Plus, it is really easy to move around from room to room if you want a change of scenery.

I think that will be the decision maker- whether I need to be mobile or not. I’ll just have the money for either, and I’ll make the decision then.

And I thought I was being silly debating this for the last 2 months. Back and forth, back and forth. I’m leaning strongly toward iMac 24 inch, because if I need to move it, I can.
