Spring 2007 Reboot’d
Update: I have now officially received the 5 votes necessary to be included in the May 1st Reboot. Thanks to everyone that voted so far, but if you haven’t yet, you still can, and should!
So just as I said, today is the day of which things are made better. In this post I’ll just run down the new stuff, and the better stuff, etc… But first, CLICK THIS and vote. You don’t even have to register!
- As mentioned various other times, the old theme was based on K2, and this one is now based on Cutline. Difference? Speed, SEO, weight, etc… Good trade off for the fancy AJAX stuff, I’d say.
- Intralinking is way better with the new archives page and a new sitemap! Hopefully this works better towards getting every page listed in Google and maybe even going up to PR6, whether it be now or on the next update.
- The top commentators box is above the fold, and does not have nofollow. Free PR5 backlink and traffic just for commenting? Sounds good to me.
- I took it easy on the icons this time around, mostly because of the Cutline framework not using them as K2 did. There still in there, but not as much now.
- Portfolio is gone! You can speculate all you want, but it will resurface in a different form.
- No more graphical headers. I found a great compromise to the old font that I was using like that. Did you know that you can use Arial Narrow is CSS? Keep it above 2.1em for it to look it’s best.
I’ll leave the rest for you to find, and I really need at least 4 other people to vote for me. I’ll be looking for bugs throughout the day, and if you find one, tell me. I’ve only tested it in Firefox and IE7, mainly because if you use IE6 or below, I don’t care

It’s Alright can’t really see the tag cloud though, I would vote if it let me.

I’d agree with L3ggy above that the tag cloud color set needs a tweak, on my laptop it’s touch to see any but the darkest 2 colors.
Apart from that love the feel of the theme tho.

When I first saw the layout I was like WHA? But I like it. Definately an improvement, good job.

I think you might have been expecting either more of a change, or something more flashy, James. Everyone keep in mind that the big change is in the code.
Tag cloud look alright now?

Tag cloud looked OK to me anyways. I keep noticing small things like the numbers next to comments.
The informality like “get in on this, it’s hot” is great. Shows you have a sense of humour.
The random word is a bit.. random.

The random word is 20 or so lines and a little bit of PHP. It was right at the end and I was a little bored. I had the design, but I sliced it and coded it all up yesterday alone, so it got pretty boring.

Hey Connor.
I think you’ve done a great job here - it resembles your last design but looks neater around the edges - I think its the font you’ve used in your logo which makes it for me.
Lovin the roundedness, and can’t wait to see how Blogtrepreneur functions in Cutline! Seems way better and quicker than K2.
…and voted!

Yeah, I was actually surprised you could use Arial Narrow in CSS, but I’m definitely looking to find more fonts like this.
