Various Ruby on Rails Resources
My documented quest for Ruby on Rails knowledge has taken a major back seat lately and likely will for a long time because it’s just not important to what I do, and what I want to do, which is design. I’ve been lucky to not have to code anything server side for a while
Good thing WordPress keeps my PHP more than dull, or I’d be completely out of it though. Anyways, here are some good links for RoR that I’ve been stumbling on (but not stumbling upon) lately.
- Ruby on Rails by Good-Tutorials. I remember learning Photoshop from GT so long ago, with all the grunge and abstract tutorials but they’ve expanded lately to include other categories besides Photoshop. Ruby on Rails (and Ruby alone too) is one of those new additions, and some good tutorials (heh, funny :P) have been coming in.
- Railsforum is an awesome place (ironically powered by PunBB) especially when you have a question. Want a ton of Rails oriented programmers? There you go
- The Pixel2Life index for RoR isn’t bad, but it’s pretty much filled by Railsforum.
- Oddly enough, the Wikipedia page for Ruby.
That’s actually it for now. I feel that to really learn it to the extent I would like, it would take actually writing a Rails app. It’s kind of like PHP, where to understand it’s best to just do it yourself.

I would like to learn other languages (I currently know PHP to quite an extent), and it looks like ROR is the next big thing.
Might install it on a test server and give it a whirl later.

I thought RoR was brilliant before, but I prefer the elegance of php.

Yeah, I definitely understand that. PHP is weighing out Ruby right now due to my experience and need of PHP anyways.
