Staples in My RSS Reader
Everyday, like a lot of people I read a series of RSS feeds. Personally, I use Bloglines (my account) to read a total of 81 different sites/blogs/what have you. The number grows every week and I’ll find new sites from people that link/comment/subscribe here, or just in my everyday browsing. The number goes up, but occasionally I’ll remove, or unsubscribe to the ones not writing anymore, or that are getting boring. Here are some of my favourites:
- Dilbert (feed) - I am one of the 82797 people that read (or look for that matter) the Dilbert comic via Bloglines. With all the other reading associated with… reading, it’s nice to have something a little different.
- Daily Dose of Imagery (feed) - Another picture-a-day setup like Dilbert, but this is actually real photography. It’s really interesting for me, because a lot of the shots are of Toronto where I (almost) live. It’s like seeing the city from someone else’s eyes.
- Tech News - There’s so many tech news blogs out there, so I’ll give you a list of a few I like:
- Mashable (feed) - Mashable isn’t quite the normal tech news. It’s main focus is social networking, but they have a great team of writers that make things a little different.
- FranticIndustries (feed) - Another great news blog, and the reason I don’t list TechCrunch here (although I read) is becasue blogs like FrantiIndustries are different. It’s all in the writer(s).
- Freelance Switch (feed) - This is a pretty new blog that is just growing like wildfire. Again, this goes to show what a couple of good writers can do for a blog. One month and 5000 readers later…
- I CAN HAS CHEEZBURGER? (feed) - Stupid, I know, but amidst reading a ton of stuff it’s good to have something like this that will update 5-10 times a day that will make you laugh. Some of the pictures like the invisible handshake ones are fine pieces of photography without the captions even!
- Pearsonified (feed) - Chris Pearson just writes really great SEO articles and basically anything having to do with having a website/blog. Nice design helps too
So now to you, the reader, whether you have randomly come across this site or are reading from RSS, I ask you this: (Besides this one, obviously) what are your RSS staples? Looking back at my choices I can see that Frantic Industries is the ’smallest’ of all them with 1500 readers. Maybe I should look into some smaller stuff. It’s not that I don’t ’smaller’ blogs, it’s just that if they’re good enough, they don’t stay small for long! Ahhh!

In total I read about 30 blogs daily. I like to keep the number down, otherwise I just don’t get round to doing anything productive.
My Staples are Problogger, Entrepreneurs-Journey, ShoeMoney, FreelanceSwitch (even though I’m not a freelancer), Pearsonified, Blogtrepreneur (hahaha), Copyblogger, John Chow and YGG.
I do read other affiliate blogs which are smaller and have tighter communities, but thats just so I can follow some smaller fish.
