(Now) Powered by Apple
All I really have to say right now is… “Wow”. And this is OS X, not Vista like those stupid commercials. I always thought those commercials were stupid, but with my iMac, I can see that they’re not stupid, just being used by the wrong company. The “out of the box” factor is 11/10, no doubt. It came in a totally suspicious big brown box, which revealed the shiny, white Apple box I was expecting.
Inside aforementioned box was the following:
- Keyboard, mouse, remote (awesome) and some manuals.
- One 20′ iMac.
- The required cables and stuff required to make it work (just one power chord actually)
I went out and bought a wireless router, and set it up on my old PC, and when I was configuring the iMac it noticed it right away. Once I had gotten in to that blue, sweeping desktop that we all know and love, I opened Safari, and much to my surprise the Internet was working. The install disc for the router wasn’t even out of my PC! I haven’t really set it up on the network properly yet, because I do actually need the disc for that, so now I guess I’m just stealing wireless… from myself…
Anyways, once I discovered Safari to be working, instead of exploring Safari and its features I promptly downloaded Firefox! I’ve had it for so long, that in the list of events I’ve just made out, the next one would be writing this post.
Some of my favourite things up till now, less than an hour after opening the box to my brand new iMac:
- Aesthetics. Period.
- The resolution of a 20′ screen. It’s like 1685 pixels or so wide! I get four columns of Mint panes!
- The F12/wheel click dashboard. Already have my Mint stats up there
- The keyboard! I was thinking about getting all new peripherals, but now I’m only going to replace the mouse! (No offense, but I need at least two buttons.)
- It’s huge… The viewing space makes my ~15′ Windows monitor look incredibly tiny.
- Everything is installed! iTunes, GarageBand, etc… All come stock.
- It’s very, very, very fast.
As mentioned, I’m not too hot on the mighty mouse, but I’ve gotten used to it pretty quick. I’ll probably get one of those crazy gaming mouses, not for gaming, but because they feel so nice
That’s all I can do for now, I have a ton of things to download, accounts to log in to, files to transfer and all things associated with changing computers/OSs.

Nice to see you’re pleased with your new mac. Ive never used one properly, just when in PC shops, but the interface does look beautiful.
By the way, the best mouse on the market is a Razer (Microsoft) Habu Gaming mouse. THE best.

Man, somehow I missed this post before. I have to agree on the Speed factor. I have a MacBook (Not an IMac, but I’m not sure what specs yours is?) and it’s so fast I was completely amazed. As I understood it, laptops were just plain slow. Photoshop also is lightning fast here yet on XP you get the annoying Adobe loading screen.
The Setup was so easy.. I was actually amazed. I’m not an apple fanatic yet but thumbs up for their MacBooks atleast.
Ultimately much easier to use and I reckon this will be a big productivity booster
