Milestones and Improvements
Lately I’ve been tweaking some stuff here and there, nothing major, but it’s something. On the single post page (click the title here) I’ve added related posts, to even further intralink my site and maybe even increase page views by showing readers some other posts. I’ve also tweaked the structure a little to make the post titles H1’s and the logo is now a div (as opposed to an H1). These tweaks haven’t been much, but hopefully they will set me on my way to more milestones.
Speaking of which, here are some random stats here that have been moving and/or shaking:
- Technorati rank is 75k.
- Alexa rank will be below 200k once it updates (which is so slow).
- Search engine traffic has been increasing. It now accounts for 5-20% of daily hits. I like the 20% days.
- RSS Subscribers are fluctuating, but today (64) is a nice high.
- 125 posts. This would be 126.
- 2500 Spam comments caught.
- 425 real comments.
That being said, for all of those stats I have goals. It’s always good to have goals for stats on any site, but in a months time, I’d like to be somewhat lower (higher for SE traffic, RSS readers, posts, spam and comments however) than where I am. I’d like to move up in PageRank to PR6 but that definitely won’t be happening next time. Or the time after that for that matter. Maybe in a year or so it will go up, but I need an estimated 10x more backlinks than the 2400 iwebtool finds.
But with all that being said on PageRank, this site is PR5 which is pretty good. You can get in on the linking action here simply by commenting! Not many people are taking advantage of my Top Commentator’s box, so one or two comments will have you a link on over 300 pages, at least one of them being PR5. Enough about that, if you want a free PR5 backlink, all you have to do is comment. It’s up to you.
On the improvements side of things, like the aforementioned tweaks, I’m brainstorming some ideas to add features and cool stuff like that around here. Some sort of asides thing, Twitter integration (although it’ll slow everything down) or featured post thing would be cool. But since Ihaven’t posted in the last two days, my goal to have one post for every day in June is a little behind, and I’ll have to be posting double time. You should really subscribe to my RSS feed to keep up. If I reach my goal (very likely) I might start going for 40-45 posts a month. Any thing higher than that might be a little too much for now though.

Nice stats bro, and nice job on the RSS readers for today.
You need to help me out with related posts plugin, cool new theme, tag cloud, and more.

Hey Connor,
I read your RSS feed in my favourite reader, but I’m not sure this would count me as being “subscribed” on feedburner? I need to look at that more sometime, might be handy for my blog.
I also got my MacBook today, It’s great! :] More on that later though,

I don’t know what feed you’re using, but it should be picked up no problem. If you want to tell me the reader I can check, but you might not be the only one using it.

Isn’t it amazing how many stats you can pull together regarding a blog? At times, it’s tough to avoid focusing on the stats rather than on creating content that will drive the stats.

I use NetVibes. I have no idea how FeedBurner counts feeds though.

Ed, I definitely know what you’re talking about! It doesn’t help with things like Mint, FeedBurner and all these amazing stats apps, eh?
Andy, you are the only Netvibes reader here
FeedBurner uses a complex algorithm to distinguish hits and subscriptions, on all hits to your FeedBurner address. I have a WP plugin that redirects all feed traffic to FeedBurner, called FeedSmith
