Apple, Digg and the iPhone
Apple truly are the marketing geniuses of today. With their iPhone coming out tomorrow, they’ve steadily releasing videos on it’s usage and features and steadily getting huge social media coverage.
One thing that’s funny about Apple’s Digg coverage over the past week or two are the people saying “Wow, all those Diggs and it’s still up!”.

That’s the Alexa graph comparing Apple’s (blue) and Digg’s (red) reach. According to that Apple see’s quite a bit more visitors than Digg, and even with the bombardment of diggs on their server, you can barely notice a bump in their traffic.
Because Alexa is really slow in terms of having up to date graphs (at least in this time zone), you’re going to have to wait a couple days after tomorrow to see the huge traffic spike they get from releasing the iPhone.
The iPhone is definitely on the revolutionary side, but as pointed out, it has flaws. Not really flaws, but it’s missing features every basic phone has. In a couple years, hopefully the iPhone will be <$200, available on all major service providers and they will have fixed all the problems that will come out in about… less than 24 hours.
If you do buy the iPhone tomorrow, enjoy it. Hopefully the shininess takes away from the price and the fact that you’re on AT&T ![]()

It would be nice to have that kind of traffic every day

I’m happy with my Blackjack, and the fact that my dad is back paying my cell phone bill with AT&T. I was spending nearly $100/month on Verizon on my own plan, so my dad was nice and let me back in on his AT&T

There comes a point where traffic says less about your site than when the flow was less massive.

Some lessons to be learned from Apple I’m sure
The Iphone looks great but the thought of having such an expensive phone locked onto a particular network is less appealing.

Sigh, some people….Apple wouldn’t let their site go down from a few (or a few hundred thousand) people visiting. They knew there was going to be hype about their product so they expected more visitors than normal.
I work for a company with a bunch of very large sites (maybe a few larger than Apples). Our site rarely goes down due to traffic. When we get large spikes we just pay through the teeth but it doesn’t go down.
Great article.
