What Infomercials can Teach you About SEO

Posted on June 29th in Quick — 9 Comments so far. Got something to say?

Infomercials outline the features of one thing, hold your attention to it and get you to the purchase page. Despite having never bought something from TV, and never will, I know infomercials work and they do convert well.

But what do these cheesy, Chuck Norris featuring commercials teach us about SEO? They become the authority site for that one term. The term is something heavily researched and made to target a specific audience. It’s said that Google prefers authority sites over niche sites, and you can see that in the SERPS, especially for sites like Wikipedia.

Infomercials teach you to be the authority, have huge keyword density and how to turn customers over in under a minute. All that but with Chuck Norris working out and some guy chopping things with really sharp knives. Funny, eh?

I’ve never bought anything off a TV, but they’ve almost sold me a few times.

They annoy the heck out of me, but they work. Otherwise the product sellers would not go that route. First, we have to look at who they are targeting — peole with up late and watching TV or some during the workday and watching TV. That audience is susceptable.

I hate them. Why even bother, no one will buy it.

Henry, they do work. That’s why they’re used as a marketing method, as Angie said, but most companies only use the TV offer as the way to get the product. Just because you don’t buy things from TV doesn’t mean millions of other people don’t ;)

I hate them, never bought anything off TV and definitely don’t plan to. Interesting post though Connor ;) Hadn’t thought of it like that before.

I hate Infomercials with a passion. Everytime an Infomercial comes on the TV, I can’t switch the channel or turn off the TV fast enough. Infomercials are an insult to my intelligence and watching one lowers my IQ down 10 notches. All of the crap sold through Infomercials are worthless garbage or a big scam. If any of the crap sold through Infomercial are really the RAGE they are hyped up to be, why Is It being sold only on through Infomercials?? None of the so called revolutionary products are being sold In stores. The Pressa Bella Iron and the Tobi Steamer are prime examples of totally worthless garbage being hawked through Infomercials.
