June Stats Are In

Posted on July 3rd in My Sites — 15 Comments so far. Got something to say?

Just like last month, I’m going to look over the stats after my second (full) month using Mint. I’m not sure if June was my best month in terms of traffic (Feb. 2007 not on record, got some viral traffic) but it was a huge improvement on May, and overall.

  • 3,358 Unique Visits (61% increase)
  • 8,588 Page views (67% increase)
  • Avg. 111 visits/day.
  • Avg. 2.5 Pages/visit.
  • Avg. # of Subscribers was 64

Looking at that, and comparing that to the past couple of days and even the end of June, the traffic seems high and the subscribers low.

First, I had a free WordPress theme released which to this moment has 1,788 views, so it helped bring in a lot of users. Combined with some articles on Pixel2Life and it made for some good traffic. I don’t think I’ll get back up there this month, but that’s where I’d like to be without the assistance.

Over the last couple of weeks subscriber counts have been up and down, but for the most part in the 70’s, high and low. Mix in a bit of downtime a day or two ago for a nice drop, and we’re back at 69 today. For June I hope to continue the increase that each month has shown.

To the predictions I made last month:

  1. Traffic will increase.
  2. 30 Posts in June.
  3. Continue to submit to Pixel2Life.

Traffic did indeed rise, a noted 61%, but June ended with only 29 posts, just barely missing my target of 30. I’ll definitely try to get that back this month with 31; one post per day. They may not be on a schedule of one per day, but the content will flow freshly this month. Speaking of which, subscribe to RSS if you haven’t to get a piece of this.

Now for my July predictions!

  1. Subscriber level will continue to increase and will average in the mid 70’s, at least.
  2. Traffic will see a slight dip, maybe 10% or so.
  3. Traffic from galleries, viral traffic and tutorial sites will be virtually non existent.

Before concluding, I should say that June also really put in some great Alexa stats. I’m not sure what I was ranked at the beginning of the month (3 month rank) but as of now I’m ranked 134,125 and increasing. Technorati saw no significant change, hovering around 67k.

Nice Connor, big jump there in terms of visitors and well done for nearly reaching your target of posts, it’s quite a lot of writing! :] Almost 1 post/day? Thats really a lot.

I’m curious as to why you expect to see a fall in traffic? Is that taking into account the releasing of the WP theme or?

is the 3358 unique visitors just your increase? Looks like Alexa is showing a ‘helluva lot more than that…

The 3358 uniques is the amount I had in June, which was a 61% increase from May. What does Alexa show? Alexa isn’t meant to portray the actual amount of traffic, more of just a guess and a rank.

My mistake Connor, i looked at your Rank…I’m going to have to investigate Alexa’s ranking a little more… I was assuming it was pure traffic. My sites had 41,000 unique 78,000 total and i’m not even in the same ballpark as your site…

Maybe a link to add alexa’s tool bar would help?

Some industries get very few Alexa users to their sites, and Alexa can only track what is reported to them. There are a ton of things you can do to improve your rank, including getting the the bar for yourself. It’s IE only, so if you’re a FF user, you can download the SearchStatus plugin.

Also, displaying a widget on your site can help. My Alexa rank does so well mainly because I get a lot of page views per user. You can see my 1wk average is 10.5, wheres a normal site will have 1-2.

Thanks Connor..I’ll check out the widgets. Also, correct me if i’m wrong, but isn’t a high alexa ranking really only valuable if you were going to sell your domain. None of the search engines use alexa’s data do they. If they do, i havn’t seen any reference to it as yet.

Alexa rank is good for comparing across the same niche, and it is required for selling advertising. Same with selling the domain, Alexa rank always helps.

Plus, it’s widely accepted by non-web savvy people when you have the 130,819th most popular website out of billions :P

I was just wondering around but suddenly got interested in your alexa ranking discussion. I did an experiment on it. by putting the Alexa widgets, my Alexa rank increase from 703K to 385K in 2 months.

Fyi, my unique visits is about 1K less than yours.

Yeah, the widget helps because every time it’s clicked it counts as a visit to Alexa, just it will only count as one page, and your pages/user will drop.

lol…the main reason i am interested in Alexa is for the suits… I think i might just put up a link to install the toolbar.

A 61% increase is not that bad. Actually is very good. I wish I could get that rate every month but I don’t :)
