Image Search: Give it Time
Here’s a quick SEO tip: Image search can be great for your site, but it takes time for the results to show.
I’ve started getting hits from terms like “rss icon” and “free rss icon” for a post that was made at the end of May. Like all things SEO, just do your job optimizing and wait. Eventually you’ll forget about the work you’ve done until you start seeing results.
I don’t huge amounts of traffic, or SE traffic for that matter, but in the last 24 hours, about 50 hits is good for me. the Image Search is really starting to contribute.
Don’t forget to optimize your images for search!

But did this traffic actually convert for you?

I’m not sure to the extent, but I do believe it turns over to a certain degree.

Actually, images can be a perfect way of getting visitors. A friend of mine (from sport-cars.org) had about 1000 visits each day through images search in early 2007.
However, in order to keep images “alive”, pages with images must have enough importance, otherwise you’ll see how the amount of indexed images for your site go down and down every day.
In addition, SEOing images is very difficult after the last significant images’ algorithm update in the mid March/2007. It is now easier to rank for irrelevant things. For example, one of my sites ranks top100 for term “fish” even the picture shows fish food.
