Headlines and Ideas: Sit Down and Shell Them Out
Thinking of ideas for designs and more creative things like that can be hard, but when it comes to writing it can be even tougher. Things are made even harder when you’ve already written hundreds of articles in your time. Personally, I have no problem, though the odd block appears, so here’s some of my tips:
- Pen, paper and chair. Sit down and just write what comes into your head. A little over a week ago I sat down and wrote out the 15 headlines of the articles to be posted throughout this week (I’m on vacation July 21st - Aug 4th) by WordPress.
- Read your feeds, then sit down to think. Sometimes you’ll find a great piece of inspiration and just flow ideas over and over.
- Have a blogging calendar. How often do you post? Make a calendar (or buy a real one for that matter) and put your headlines in the boxes. This is also how I did #1. When I finished writing the article, I put a big “X” through it. Not only will you be organized, but you’ll get a sense of accomplishment with all the X’s.
- Work backwards. When normally writing, I’ll write a headline, then an article around it. After I’ll add tags and pick a category. Maybe think of some tags you’d like to write about, pick a relative category and write!
- Wander off topic. Maybe it’s time for a new category or to wander a little away from the norm.
- Rant, but for a reason. Rants are best done in a stream of consciousness style and must be genuine.
If you have no ideas and really need to post, you can always do a link post or talk about another well written post somewhere else. Don’t forget: no post is better than a crappy one.

Work backwards? I thought filling the headline was the first part! Maybe that has given me advantages in the past… anyways. Me being a novice blogger (and having basically no post yet, until I get more “reading experiene” ) I always think of writing about what I read. Blogs are so interesting, I just feel like being a reporter and report about blogs, in a way.
