Break the Skim with Images

Using images in posts is a great way to catch the reader’s eye, or stop their eye from skimming through, reading the title, headlines and leaving. A good, relevant image goes a long way. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so let your images do the talking.
This is a simple blogging technique I use every now and then but should do more. Placing a simple 500×100 image at the top of a post with a stock image and some text really helps a user want to read the post. Plus it takes me all of 2 minutes in Photoshop.
A simple stock image, with a little editing to fit your needs is usually the best bet. My favourite site for free stock images you can freely use and edit is SxC.hu.
Because a readers eye is naturally drawn to things like headings a post, emphasized text and pictures, their eye will slow down and start to read, instead of just passing over. Especially in tech news, you’ll see at least on image in every post. It works, and it’s used for a reason!
You don’t have to go making images for every single post, but every now and then it’s nice. It also helps improve the general quality of your blog when you have good images like that floating around. Makes things look pretty

Good technique, and I am proof that it works. I actually read this post before I read your latest post! It definately makes things look more eye catching and dedicated.

This is my first visit to your blog Connor. I’m really liking the Arial Narrow for the headings…I might just have to steal that idea!
