Do You Read Outside Your Niche?

I write mainly about web development. There are many things that can go with it, from design to programming and SEO to industry news, but my feed reader isn’t exclusively web design and tech news sites.
My feed reader is full of those things, as that’s what I’m interested in, but for your sanity’s sake, it’s good to venture outside that every now and then.
Some people read the celebrity gossip blogs, but for me, that is possibly the last thing I’d read. It’s like the trash in the tabloids, in a less formal manner with “I can has cheesburger” style pics of said celebrities.
Some of my favourite unrelated blogs:
StrongLifts (Strength Traning Blog) - Of all places, I ran over this site from John Chow bath review. Mehdi serves up great content everyday and speaks from true experiences in body building and strength training. His writing style is perfect for the site too. He’s very blunt and directly to the point, which is awesome. He says things that everyone thinks, but doesn’t want to say, 5 reasons You are Fat for example (great article, by the way, check it out).
Drivl - Not much can be said in the way of describing Drivl other than people ranting about stuff that happens to them. I plant a couple humourous sites like this in my reader to sort of break up all the serious info, but it’s a great way to change a mood during the day.
Other topics closely related, but not totally the same to your area of expertise can be useful, too. For example, I’m not an internet marketer, I don’t write about, or even know much on the matter, but I still enjoy reading Pronet Advertising.
So in conclusion, diversifying your reading can not only improve your overall general knowledge, but break the mold of the same thing day in and day out.

I often read outside of my niche. I just enjoy learning new things, it keeps life interesting. I use StumbleUpon to randomly bring up new pages.

Very true. Even though I haven’t posted about my website topic yet (since I still don’t think I have the “blogging experience” to do so) I am thinking about making a post about Communism and Capitalism and how I can apply those ways of life on the Internet. Besides, people like more than one thing? Why not give it to them from time to time?
