Getting Back Into Things
Having just got back from a two week vacation, devoid of any technology other than a DVD/CD player and some newspapers, getting back into everyday life proves a challenge. I’ve been back since Saturday (Monday night now) and I’m still not fully assimilated back into every day life.
Even without the hundreds of emails, thousands of RSS items and total lack of the news of the week, I’m only back to my blog now. Two weeks is a little long to go without being connected to anything, especially when you don’t leave the country. Two weeks in some hot, sub-equator, exotic location I can understand, but these two weeks had me wishing I did go for the Mac Book Pro instead of my iMac. But I degress.
I thought I could get back and start into working right away and get things running smoothly again, but that was not the case. It felt like I had never actually used a computer before, with the foreign feeling of a mouse in my hand. Those who are either anti-technology (or afraid of it) say some can’t go without their emails or internet for longer periods of time. Infomainia, they call it, or something. Call it what you will, but those “infomaniacs” such as myself dread the return to hours deleting spam and replying to angry people who didn’t realize you had left.
I feel now I’m mostly back into things and should be able to return to my daily routines tomorrow bright and early. Coming back after two weeks hides some humour, however. Despite the fact that my writing will probably suffer for a while, my cat lost it’s voice from “yelling” at us so much. It was fed and stuff throughout the week, but it thinks it’s a human. Yes, I just wrote about my cat
In other news I got an email from a supposed DreamHost lawyer asking me to do some stuff in terms of removing a post (wouldn’t be hard to guess which one. I’ll give you a hint, it involves some IM convos). Unfortunately for their well distracted and ignorant minds, the DH law team is out of luck because the email I sent bounced back from both the guy and the legal@dreamhost.com address. I also question how real that was.

Welcome back! I know the feeling of coming back to technology. A few years ago I went on a trip out west to Vancouver. I was away for 3 weeks and when I came back it felt like I was using my laptop for the first time. Don’t worry everything will be back to normal in a week.

Sarcasm doesn’t come through too well on the internet, so if you’re trying to say something, I’m afraid you’ll have to be a little more frank.

Its weird… but even though the posts kept up the whole time.. I still had this eerie feeling that you weren’t here. haha.
But I know what you mean. I left the blogging world for a few days and my blogging routine still hasn’t fully recovered even after a month.

Welcome back. I was wondering why you haven’t posted yet.
