The new iMac and some WordPress News

Posted on August 7th in Apple, WordPress — 6 Comments so far. Got something to say?

New iMac

Apple announced the new iMac today, to no surprise, but that doesn’t matter much. Glass and aluminum mixed in with a whole lot of shiny make this low price point PC one helluva good decision.

As an *old* iMac owner of a couple months, I’m not very disappointed I didn’t wait. I would rather have the new, shiny version that would be 4 inches larger for the same money, but I’ll persevere. I’m not totally sure when it goes on for sale, whether right away or not, but the Apple Store is down, and could come back up with (a new design?) these new models.

I’d like to see some extra shiny, glass/aluminum Mac Book Pros, though. Two years time from about now would be the perfect release time, for me anyways.

On to WordPress, everybody go upgrade to 2.2.2. It’s a security upgrade, so I implore you to get this update. DreamHost is always really good at updating their one click installs, and the delay is only 24hrs at the most.

Also cool, my WordPress tshirt came today. I was expecting it to come by mail (like be in the mailbox) but the delivery person scared me half to death knocking on the door as I walked by it. You can get one at the WordPress Store, and I’d definitely recommend it. Though, when it shows you that it’s red, it is really red. Not for the faint at heart ;)

The only thing with WordPress upgrades is that it gives you fresh files, so any modifications made to stylesheets or anything in the admin area, etc… are erased. So my custom admin panel is gone. It’s my fault though. I should’ve made a separate sheet for my modifications, or better yet made a plugin. I’ll live, though ;)

I’ve seen a few pictures of the new iMac screens and I’m totally against the glossy look. If you have any source of light you’re going to get a glare.

I love the Mac products, only real bad downside is that most software isn’t up to date with the Mac products as they are with Windows products, for example.

Andre, what do you mean the software isn’t up to date? Macs update much more often, in terms of the OS, but all normal software goes about it’s regular schedule, according to the creators.

The new glossy screen is bad too. It becomes impossible to view if you have any direct light on it.
