Design Changes
So, as I mentioned yesterday, I’ve cleaned house a little. Here’s a quick list of the things that have changed:
- New logo. This is a modified version of the one in the new design (don’t get too excited, that’s a long way off).
- New/better typography.
- Changes in the footer. I did this a while ago, but I’ll count it. I added links to some of the most commented posts and some of my favourites.
- Tag cloud got heavily reduced.
- Related posts limited to 5.
Doesn’t seem like much?
Those changes alone are enough to really spruce things up around here, but most of the work went into the single post page. I tried to make the experience better for those who bother to comment, and read the comments. I added a subtle highlight to my own comments, and then cleaned up the related/subscribe area above the comments.
Also, to keep ugly Cutline trackbacks out of the comments, I separated them, so now if there are track back, the appear below in a nice little box. It doesn’t sound like much, but separating the two, displaying them the way you want with all the other extras, and then running separate counts, and then displaying a heading depending on the count… gets a little tough, especially when you’ve never done that before 
The fourth installment of my improve your blog series is a good example of the changes made.
When I get some more time, I might add an asides category in the sidebar, and give an icon to the top commentators whose UL isn’t so pretty

Well i have to say i’m impressed, i really like the new changes. The logo as you said is far from complete but its a working progress.

Haha, good idea, Josh, but this took me around 10 minutes out of the day, a couple times this week. Very late at night, I might add. That might cause some bugs.

Good call on reducing the tagcloud a bit and making the related posts only 5 posts long.
I like how your comments have a fading blue background as well

If I am to be honest I really prefered your previous nice big fat fluffy fonts, but the logo looks like it has potential - its eye-catching.

I appreciate the honesty. Every thing has been a step to the next design, sort of laying a framework for it. I’m going to continue to use Cutline but with a much, much better design.
