August In Retrospect (Stats and More)
Last month (July,I know it’s September) I explained why traffic saw a dip because I wasn’t “chasing” traffic. In August I kept that mentality of not going out and getting higher quantities of useless traffic. I figure this traffic, that doesn’t turn over or stay for more than a couple seconds is useless to me.
In August it came to me a little, in the form of StumbleUpon picking on the sixth part of my improve your blog series. Stats for August were as follows:
- 2669 Unique Visitors (up from 1946)
- 6893 Pages Viewed (up from 5645)
- 102 Readers on average (up from 90)
That gives for 86 visits a day, at about 2.6 pages per user. That’s not bad, in terms of pages viewed, but it is a little skewed by the StumbleUpon traffic. I’m not saying it was a huge impact, but a couple hundred hits goes a long way in filling your stats out.
With around 5 days left in August I was just crossing the 2000 visit mark for the month, and thought it would be great if I could get up to 2500 but the end of the month. Getting 100 hits five days in a row isn’t something that really happens a lot here, but I thought it was possible. That’s when SU came in and helped me get over that goal.
In terms of posting, August saw 25 posts, which is the lowest since March. Fret not, September should see new posts everyday or more. Some notable posts from the month included:
- The 7 Part/7 Day series on improving your blog.
- 7 Lessons Golf can Teach you About Blogging
- What Exactly is Social Anyways?
- What John Chow has done for MistyLook
August also saw the tweaking of the design. I’m laying down the groundwork for the next design to come in smoothly over top of this one. That may surface this month, but by the end of October, you’ll definitely see the change. I’m going to take this Cutline and rip it apart (yet again) to conform to my needs.
A short note, but the next design will be all about you, the reader. Not only will it look a TON better for everyone, but things like comments will really be improved.
So, all that said, my goals for September:
- 3000 Visits is not out of the question, but the goal is 2500.
- I’d like to see more page views per user, and I’ll work to improve that. The goal is at least 3.
- I’d like to hit 125 readers at one time throughout this month.
- Write 30 posts or more throughout the month.
I’m not aiming high right now, but once I get the new design in place that will change. Then it’s the stars ![]()

Good luck on your goals.
Also, I couldn’t tell this was a Cutline based theme. Good job

Ah statistics
I too wrote an article on statistics and goals this month

Great job on the stats though. Mine were inflated due to one of my articles getting noticed…
G’luck hitting your goals for september

I look forward to seeing your new design, though I’m a fan of the existing one as is

It’s a good idea to track these numbers month by month (day by day is a bit noisy). That which is measured, improves.. etc etc.
Keep up the interesting posts.

You might want to note that you effect the statistis as well. If you are posting a new article everyday then you are looking at, say more than 3 pages each go, at least.
Be sure to keep that in mind.
