My Schedule to Posting Every Day
Posting everyday is something that troubles many bloggers. It’s really not as hard as you think. I didn’t post yesterday, but it was a conscious decision to give the latest post a little more time on top. I do this every now and then when an article that I put a lot into doesn’t get many comments or views, and it works (most of the time).
I’m at school for most of the day and will be away more and more when sports start, but I can post every day with very little effects on my free time.
- ~6:50 AM: This time depends really on how much I feel like waking up. Once I manage to get out of bed a few seconds (very loud alarm) to ten minutes later, I go over and turn on my iMac. About a minute later I’m reading the 100 or so RSS items that accumulate over night. This way when I get home there isn’t 200.
- ~7:10 AM - 3:30 PM: In this time I do everything from eat breakfast to go to school and come back. I might get home around 5:30-6, and I’ll explain how that changes things.
- 3:30 PM - ?: With school comes homework, and if I’m not feeling extremely lazy, I’ll do it. Otherwise I just shoot out possible headlines I could write about onto a piece of paper. If I got home late, I bump everything back by the amount of time this would take. Could be no time, could be hours.
- 7:00 PM: This is usually when I write. I’ve eaten and have energy at this point in time. When I’m writing at this time, the post for that day has already been live since 11 AM. Because I’m not around during peak hours (the first wave of them anyways), I write a day ahead.
- 11:00 PM: Because I wake up so early (for me), I try to go to sleep pretty early. This is usually another time to write out more headlines.
Writing a post takes me about 30-45 minutes. An hour if it’s a long one, like the SEO post the other day. You can’t tell me you don’t have half an hour a day to write. This is where the whole dedication thing comes in.
Even if you’re not dedicated to writing everyday, you can quickly fall into a schedule of writing things a day in advance. People ask me what my secret is to writing so consistently, and that is what I tell them. The fact that I actually want to write helps, but another thing is the headline writing.
I write out a bunch of these possible article headlines a day, and they might not all make it to publication, but this is where it all starts. Having the option of what article to write really helps. If you’re tight on time you can always pick one that will lead to a shorter article.
Another personal thing is that every now and then I create a calendar quickly on paper to visualize the posts throughout the week. These simple things can have you writing everyday, even a couple times. If you’re tight on time you can still manage, and worse case scenario you write before you go to sleep. That may cause some bas decisions, but you’ll have to make that decision yourself
PS - Today is an exception to the schedule, as weekends usually are. This will go live right after I’m done and I’ll write tomorrow’s article later today.

It can be hard to keep the posting up sometimes. I work a part time job, and go to school; sometimes those 30-45 minutes are hard to find. I usually try to maintain a backlog of 3-4 posts incase I am not able to write one day.
This does, however, lead to feelings of “oh, I could slack off today, I have 3 posts ready,” but you have to just stick with it and keep writing.

David - try working full-time, marriage, mother-in-law, three dogs & a constantly stoned cat. Add that three of the surrounding four houses contain absolutely bizarre families. There’s also the drug dealer in the wheelchair and a house of ill repute within a stones throw.
Trying to maintain my sanity for 45 minutes a day can be hard to do.

I wish I had your commitment to blogging, and to balance it with school as well is doubly impressive.

Connor, I like your idea of writing out possible headlines. It may be something to try.
Robert, you certainly have things going for you there. If you work about 70-90 hours a week you don’t have much chance either

I want to post more, but I have a hard time finding the time to do it. With my full time job, working on other sites and making time for family time, it’s tough. I’m in the groove now of posting about once every few days, which I definitely want to improve. I guess it’s just something you have to make the commitment to do. I would love to have a backlog of articles already written that I could just release every couple days, but I’m also afraid that if I write a lot and keep a back log of articles, I’ll be less apt to continue writing and slack off because I know I’ve got article sitting there waiting.

Although I work full-time I don’t struggle finding the time to write a post. However what I do find a bit of a stuggle is writing something that will benefit the readers not just a post for postings sake.

By staying on a tight schedule and posting multiple times a day over the last month I am on target to meet and exceed my goal of $2000 for the month from PayPerPost alone. This does not include the other revenue sources.

Connor,
I applaud you and I wish I had been as organized and focused when I was your age. But I do my best now. Thanks for the great tips!
