Relying on Posting for Traffic [Part 2]
The other day, I asked if you have to rely on posting for traffic. I thought I’d give it a shot myself, and while it must have been months since I missed two days in a row posting (or when I was on holiday in July), I wanted to see what would happen.
Traffic
Traffic was clearly very low. Friday was around 57 hits and yesterday saw about 62. An average day for me is around 95-105. Weekends are always a little lower, but not that low. Page views stayed up over 2 per user, but it would appear that my traffic is pretty dependent on my posting.
Is that bad thing? If I can draw 60 hits without doing anything, does posting contribute the other 40? For me, it’s not a bad thing. I pretty much post every day anyways, and will be posting more than that to make up for this little experiment. I also never get 40 clickthroughs from my RSS feed and I’m not one to get the post for that day linked for more traffic.
Readers
RSS subscribers fluctuated as always. Those subscribed with Google Reader can jump up or down by 15 or so at any time, as well as the “other readers” part can do the same. Nothing interesting to report on this end.
So if your traffic is relying on posting everyday, why not just post everyday. I’ve said before, and I’ll say it again, you should be posting everyday because there’s someone else just like you who is.
Posting will resume as usual tomorrow, and there will be days where I’ll try to post twice to make up the days I’ve missed and still reach my goal for September. The problem with that is that posts slip off the front page very quickly. With then new design, still a long way off, I’m trying to keep recent posts above the fold without using excerpts. I’m trying to utilize the sidebar for this, as we’ll see how it works.
When that comes out, I want to be posting twice a day, everyday. Hopefully you, the beloved reader, will be able to keep up. Best way to keep up? Subscribing to RSS.

What are you using for stats? I used to have extreme tracker but the code was just really messy and slowed things down.

I use Mint, and that’s it for now. I might add Google Analytics sometime in the future, but for now its just Mint.

Does posting twice a day have more effect on trafic?

It’s been a while, but I would say there’s always a little increase. I’ll see when I start doing it.

That sound interesting, I guess I should start posting more often in my private blog - maybe then my family will read it more
By the way, I use google analytics and I really like it - also my friends use it very successfully. What is the advantage of Mint compared to google?

I too have noticed that traffic increases with new content. Its no magic trick its just how it works. You provide content, people read content when in there to read.

Mint is extensible. Mint looks awesome. Mint makes you cool if you have it. It’s like a $30 fee for your ’status’. But in all seriousness, its a great stats app, and it is constantly improved upon and third party themes and extras are always being made.

I’d go for Google Analytics over Mint anyday. I can’t actually believe people are still willing to pay $30 for a stats package these days. Maybe I’m stupid but I don’t see what all the fuss about Mint is - sure it looks nice and has some ‘cool’ features but GA offers far better results.
