Will You Upgrade to WordPress 2.3?
For the WordPress users: what’s going through your head right now in regards to the new major release? Upgrading to major releases usually mean upgrading plugins, tweaking themes and updating code. Do you really want to do that?
One of the biggest changes is the native support for tags. First, it took them long enough. I don’t know how this wasn’t back in 2.0 or earlier. UTW has concluded development and is passing the torch to WP. You’ll have to import your data, but there’s always complications with that.
So, I figure there’s a couple options:
- You’ve beta tested it an are on the ball.
- You’re updating the second it goes public RC 1.
- You’re waiting for your host to support it for the easy update.
- You’ll wait two weeks or so for the major stuff to be rolled out, then update.
- You’re sticking with the current version.
Updating is kind of inevitable, but I’m going to be in the group that waits a bit. I originally wanted to beta test it, but I’ve never used SVN so I just sat and waiting for the public release. Now, with much less time, I don’t really want to worry about my software when I have to worry about actually writing.
What are your thoughts on this new major release?

Definitely not looking forward to updating. I’ll probably take a saturday one day and just sit down and update everything at once. I guess its good to stay caught up with the releases (so you don’t go from 2.3 to 3.6 down the road).
On a totally unrelated thing this month is tight for comments. Jeez I think I had 12 total for last month and was first

I always wait a month or two in order to give all the people who maintain the plugins I use time to update them and whatnot.
I’ve actually never (knocks on a huge oak tree) had a script kiddie mess with my site through a WP vulnerability, so I’m hardly ever that concerned with upgrading in order to patch any security holes. Hopefully I’ll be able to manage having the same “blah” attitude to upgrading as I’ve had in the past

@Adam: I’m not complaining
The more comments the better!
@Goob: I’ll knock on that same tree. I’ve never had problems with anything like that. Maybe it’s just that I mess with the right people, not 12 year old kids with PHP and Google

I’m pretty sure I’ll wait until my host supports the easy upgrade. Thats just the kind of push I need.

I will probably just upgrade when it comes out in the “gold release” I will wait for the RC’s to be fully tested. Besides it is supposed to be easy to upgrade in the future with the 2.3.x line, not that it isnt easy now!
As for the plugins I dont currently use to many plugins on any of my blogs especially my personal blog I should blow the dust of it sometime!

I’ll be starting a new blog with the 2.3.x line so I’m kinda looking forward to it. I’ll be trying my hand at writing a few custom plugins for my blog so I’m excited for this release. I’ve already downloaded and played with the beta so we’ll see how things go once the full version goes live. Either way it goes my blog will launch probably in October so I won’t have to deal with any of the problems with updating as soon as it’s released.

As a plugin author, I started testing 2.3 kinda early. This is a “major” release and sadly not all plugins are compatible, including some plugins and code snippets I wrote in the past.
While sad, I think it’s time for some to move on. 2.3 is a worthwile release, and for those stuck in the Vista wait-and-see, I think it’s time to see.

I am upgrading one and leaving another one. My main site I am working on theme for my site so lot of things are not working properly at the moment.
Having said that I am working to get my other blogs working with new version soon.

I’m not upgrading, at least, not in a hurry. If you don’t use tagging, there is no real imperative to upgrade (Bar the odd security fix, which will cause me to upgrade eventually.

I use about 10 plugins and they all seem to function, for the most part. The biggest thing that I’ve found is that The plugin activation would not return me to the plugins page in the admin. It would be activated and functional, though. Oh, and I’m already using 2.3. I went through the whole 2.2 tags in - tags out craziness, so there was no going back for me.

I am to busy trying to work out how to transfer my blog to a linux server so it supports permalinks, so I think an upgrade wont happen until after that for me.

I’ve updated a couple of blogs we run for people and the process wasn’t too bad. Holding off on my personal blog until some of the plugins have been updated (and widely-used to prove stability).

Wordpress 2.3 is giving problem with certain plugins… a casual upgrade can be discouraging to the readers…
