The More Involved you are, the Better
From my perch, high atop the 9rules Fantasy Football pool (just saying, not bragging… alright maybe a little) I eagerly await Sunday. I sleep with nervousness in anticipation for Monday night when things will finally wrap up.
Before this pool, which I barely got into, I had barely any knowledge or any strong interest for football. Sure, I watched it with moderate activeness (those two words don’t work too well together…) but like I said, I didn’t know jack.
Now my activity has me up on every number, injury and last name in the league. I’ve been predicting nearly every game in every week (Proline will hate me for that, hopefully) and now it’s something I really enjoy.
Now, sports analogy off my chest, this does actually go for anything, including blogging.
How to Participate
In blogging, the activity of utmost importance is the actual blogging. It’s hard to be active in the blogging community without actually blogging. You can do it, but eventually you’ll start a blog.
Off the top of my head, there are tons more ways to get involved, so to speak:
- Comment on other blogs.
- Read other blogs.
- Participate in forums and communities.
- Be up on general news and events.
The latter, maybe not so obvious to some people. Knowing what happened last week in Austria isn’t going to effect your gardening blog, but it will have a roll off effect on you, personally. It’s been said before, but the more you read the better you write. Also, current events will make you feel really smart and attempt to use really long words.
You would think that if you locked up two bloggers in the same room, both unknown to each other and told them to have a conversation, it could go on forever. Because of #2 on that list, there’s no shortage of interesting events floating around their heads at any given moment. They may not even get to the point that either of them blog.
Personally, I may have dropped significantly in activity in the blogging community, but I can bring back the sports analogy for that. Maybe no analogy, but sports in what holds me back after school, instead of coming home and writing something. I’m tall, skinny and I can jump- it’s the least I could do for my school (besides the fact I actually enjoy it).
Web Design? Postage Worker?
Same thing can be said for any other job. In the situation of a web designer/developer, it’s not hard to find communities and ways to participate in the industry, mainly because it’s an interesting thing, and you can do it all online in the comfort of your own home.
Finding something interesting about your job when you have something not exactly elating like a Post Office Worker (no offense) can help you want to be an active member of the respective industry. Maybe postal services is a bad example, but hopefully you catch the drift.
Conslusion
Go Vikings. That is all.
